Carl Hirschmanns GT KIT

Modular GT Kit

Especially for GT cars a modular GT kit was designed supporting engineers in chassis development. On their website Carl Hirschmann offers interested engineers a fundamental approach, based on a practical customer application, and shows how many possibilities are existing. With only a few clicks the suitable chassis components can be selected – from street car up to a high-tech race car. “With this user-friendly online-application we can offer our flexible concept for all GT cars available on the market and show the wide range of our applications. With only a few basic elements a big variance can be covered at reasonable effort”, says sales manager Ingo Schmidberger. Besides this online version the GT kit is available also with real products of a reference customer.
Carl Hirschmann GT kit is designed for four different car types and in interactive application it is classified in according categories:
  • GT Street: street car developed with experience in motorsport
  • GT Performance: road-legal expansion steps, optimized in performance and power
  • GT Club Sport: performance-oriented Club Sport car – possibly even from lower
  • GT CUP Racing: racing/cup car with stiffness-optimized forged control arms with double-shear connection and heavy-duty spherical plain bearings

Main Component: a forged suspension arm

The main component of the case is a forged suspension arm, which is used already in various types of a renowned manufacturer of sports cars – with sealed bearings for the street and unsealed bearings for race sport. Different chassis requirements caused by individual geometries can simply be met by various attachments to the suspension arm. “For example, camber can be adjusted by various spacers”, Ingo Schmidberger explains.

Spherical plain bearings with special sliding foil – from prototype up to serial manufacturing – are the core competence of the company located in Black Forest. In this area Carl Hirschmann supports their automotive partners with complete units as suspension arms, wishbones, tie rods or strut bearings which are delivered customized and just in time to the assembly line of the OEM. It is used in several racing series. In development and manufacturing of units for race cars and serial vehicles Carl Hirschmann in the pole position already since many years. The latest plain bearing technology of Carl Hirschmann is applied in various race series – amongst others Porsche with GT3 Cup, AUDI with R8 LMS and German Touring Masters (DTM) trust in these innovative and robust bearings.

With the modular kit the requested application can be designed. Ingo Schmidberger: “In case of a road vehicle factors like sealing, life or corrosion of chassis are essential. These criteria are not relevant in race sport. Here are important highest stiffness or lowest torque and tilting moments for heavy duty spherical plain bearings”. Exact these diametrically oriented requirements are clearly pictured in the new online tool of Carl Hirschmann.
