Clamping System 4000 for Wire EDM


Depending on the size and weight of workpieces, Clamping System 4000 has two options for workpiece clamping for wire EDM/cutting erosion. HIRSCHMANN offers pallet systems for workpieces up to 30 kg and frame/beam systems for workpieces up to 150 kg. Pallets can automatically be changed with handling units and robots.

Ac­cu­racy of Carl Hirschmann Clamping Systems

(Clamp­ing Sys­tems 4000 – 5000 – 8000 – 9000)

Users of clamping systems should be familiar with the following terms:
On all clampers, electrode holders, pallets etc. one of the centering noses or one of the centering grooves is marked with a reference point or reference mark. This reference point says nothing about accuracy of the clamping system. It only helps to remind the user from which position he took the holder out of the clamper, so that he can clamp it again in the same position (reference point over reference point), increasing repetitive accuracy.





Positioning or repetitive accuracy, also called repeatability, is the precision with which any holder is clamped repeatedly in the same position (reference point over reference point), in the same clamper.

Repetitive accuracy is measured at 100 mm under or over Z-axis reference line that means 100 mm in extension of Z-axis.
  • Repetitive accuracy of Clamping Systems 4000, 5000, 8000: 
    <0.002mm = <2µm
  • Repetitive accuracy of Clamping System 9000:
    <0.005mm = <5µm
Center misalignment is the extent by which the axial position of the holder to the clamper changes when the holder or pallet is turned within the centering prism (90°, 180°, or 270°).

Misalignment is measured as described under item 2.

For Clamping Systems 4000, 5000, 8000 the value of center misalignment is <0.004mm = <4µm.

Please note that misalignment for double holders, for example collet holders, is increased by the axis error of clamping cone to centering prism, plus the concentricity error of the collet.

Changing accuracy is the amount by which one holder (reference point over reference point), is changed from one clamper to another.

Changing accuracy is measured as described under item 2.

For Clamping Systems 4000, 5000, 8000 positioning or repetitive accuracy is added from < 0.002mm = < 2µm plus center misalignment of <0.004mm = <4µm to a changing accuracy of <0.006mm = <6µm, if one holder is changed from one clamper to another.

If the holder is changed to several clampers, then changing accuracy can be increased to <0.012mm = <12µm. If a measuring machine is connected in between, the value is reduced again to <0.006mm = <6µm
